Who knew that learning phrases as simple as “hello” and “thank you” would sound so beautiful or be so rewarding? I am here in Roma, Italia with four of my friends fumbling our way through conversations with our bent Italian/spanish dialect mixed with our own made-up language like saying “un sorrio (sar-e-o)” for “I’m sorry.” Italy is beautiful, delicious and peaceful. It has take
n me 4816 miles (7751 km) (4185 nautical miles) to find freedom from the stress and patterns of my everyday life. I am enjoying every bite of antipasti, every shot of bitter cappuccino, intensely heated conversations about Christianity vs. Catholicism and even my painful blisters from miles of walking this beautiful, ancient city. I’m home away from home and so happy.
